Mabuhay House Society Receives Commitment From Two BC Political Parties to Develop the Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 15, 2024
Vancouver, BC— In a powerful show of solidarity, both the BC NDP and BC Green parties have officially expressed their support for the construction of a Provincial Filipino cultural centre in British Columbia. This commitment was highlighted in two separate letters of support provided by both parties, expressing their dedication to champion diversity, inclusivity, and the cultural preservation of the Filipino-Canadian community, should they be elected in the upcoming BC Legislative Assembly this October.
The Mabuhay House Society, an organization dedicated to promoting Filipino heritage and fostering community engagement in British Columbia, has long advocated for a central cultural hub. This facility will provide a safe, welcoming space where the Filipino community can gather, celebrate, and promote its rich traditions and values, all while contributing to the diverse multicultural fabric of British Columbia.
"We are incredibly encouraged by the support we have received from both the BC NDP and BC Green parties. The Filipino community has long contributed to the social, economic, and cultural landscape of British Columbia, and having a dedicated cultural centre will only strengthen those bonds. We eagerly await the response of the BC Conservative Party and hope that they, too, will recognize the importance of this project. This is a major step forward for the community, and we're excited for what the future holds," said William Canero, Vice Chair of Mabuhay House Society.
At the heart of the Society's mission is the belief that every community deserves a space to thrive and share their cultural identity. With this year’s launch of Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre Vision Survey, the creation of a provincial Filipino cultural centre will not only serve as a focal point for the Filipino diaspora but also act as a bridge between the Filipino community and the larger Canadian society. Mabuhay House Society is committed to fostering leadership, cultural understanding, and inclusion, while ensuring that future generations continue to have a strong connection to their roots.
Both BC NDP and BC Green have emphasized the importance of creating a space where British Columbians of Filipino heritage can feel a sense of belonging, while sharing their contributions to the province’s social and economic success. In their letters of support, the parties outline their shared commitment to ensuring that Filipino voices are heard and their culture is celebrated at a provincial level.
