Mabuhay House Society Strengthens Filipino Non-Profits through Collaboration and Cultural Connection

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 9, 2024

Vancouver, BC— Mabuhay House Society (MHS) is proud to complete the first cohort of the Hub and Spoke Program to help build and expand the relationships between ten Filipino non-profit organizations in B.C.

Launched in Spring 2024 in collaboration with MODUS, the program focuses on collaboration, mentorship, and cultural connection and was identified through the engagement of the participating organizations. These commitments will continue to foster relationships by supporting culture bearers, elders, families, and Filipino communities across the diaspora, with the ultimate goal of creating a Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre

“I am proud to announce the completion of the first cohort of our Hub and Spoke Program, to strengthen collaboration and mentorship among ten Filipino non-profit organizations across B.C.” said Sammie Jo Rumbaua, Chair for MHS. “This program has been instrumental in fostering cultural connections and advancing our goal of creating a Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre. We remain hopeful and committed to securing sustainable grants, developing relevant community programs, and building strategic partnerships across the Filipino social service sector and commitment among political parties, provincial and federal levels,  to address the needs of Filipino-Canadians. Through this initiative, we are creating safe spaces for intergenerational learning, cultural exchange, and advocacy, ensuring lasting support for the Filipino community across the diaspora."

As we share these developments, certain challenges involving mental health, burnout, and funding remain pressing issues. In response to this, MHS will continue to provide support in securing sustainable grant funding, creating better youth support systems, and building strategic partnerships that lead to long-term solutions.
