Frequently Asked Questions

  • Mabuhay House Society is a registered non-profit society working with the Province of British Columbia to develop a provincial Filipino cultural centre that will be an inclusive, intercultural, and intergenerational space that Filipino Canadians can call home.

  • Mabuhay House Society’s goal is to build a welcoming provincial Filipino cultural centre and develop intergenerational and intercultural spaces that highlight the many contributions of the Filipino Community — one we can call home in BC and Canada.

  • The provincial Filipino cultural centre is a place for the community to unite in British Columbia. It will celebrate the culture and contributions of the Filipino Canadian community. The centre is led by, supports, and responds to the needs of the Filipino Canadian community in B.C.

  • Because the project is currently being engaged, there has not been an identified neighbourhood or city where the provincial Filipino Cultural Centre can be built. After we complete the engagement and feasibility planning stage in the next few years, we can consult with the province and recommend making the cultural centre. The community centre must be an inclusive, intercultural, and intergenerational space for Filipino Canadians.

  • Building the Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre is a multi-year project (8- 15 years) that depends on ongoing community engagement and support from both government and private sectors. The work has began in 2023 when the provincial government awarded Mabuhay House $250,000 for capacity building and engaging with community. With several stages to complete, including securing partnerships and fulfilling regulatory steps, our team is dedicated to steadily advancing this vision.

  • Mabuhay House Society is working closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport to ensure a proper process from engagement to capital planning until the development and construction of the cultural centre. This project will take many years to complete. That is why we need the community to be involved in continuing the work with proper governance and engagement.

  • Mabuhay House Society spent $250,000 on capacity-building programs, staff employment costs, administrative costs, and awareness activities. We are accountable to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport, and they continue to work closely with us.

  • The Province of British Columbia is launching an initial engagement process that will inform a vision for a new cultural centre in B.C. that will celebrate the culture and contributions of the Filipino Canadian community. Please fill out the Vision Survey with your thoughts and recommendations about how to best advance this work. The PFCC Vision Survey is available from June to December 2024.

  • If you answered a survey before June 2024, there is a high chance that you didn’t complete the Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre Vision Survey. In partnership with the Mabuhay House Society, this survey was collected by the provincial government to inform a vision for a new cultural centre in B.C. that will celebrate the culture and contributions of the Filipino Canadian community. Please fill out the Vision Survey with your thoughts and recommendations about how to best advance this work.
