Open Letter: A Heartfelt Thank You to the BC Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport

The Mabuhay House Society extends its deepest gratitude to the BC Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, for their unwavering support of our organization and their commitment to the development of the Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre.

The Mabuhay House Society’s mission has always been to create a welcoming provincial Filipino cultural centre that fosters intergenerational and intercultural connections. Our goal is to showcase the rich contributions of the Filipino-Canadian community while empowering individuals through cultural, social, and diverse expressions. With the generous support of the Ministry, we have been able to expand our programs, reach more people, and continue celebrating the vibrant diversity that defines our community.

Today, more than 170,000 Filipino Canadians call British Columbia home, making Filipino Canadian one of the fastest-growing communities in the province. This significant milestone highlights the need for a dedicated cultural centre where Filipino heritage can be celebrated, preserved, and shared with the wider public. The Ministry’s resources have allowed us to offer new programs, engagements, and festivals that not only support the Filipino-Canadian community but also create opportunities for all British Columbians to engage with and appreciate our rich culture.

See letter below by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport in June 2024.

The Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre Vision Survey is still open, and we invite everyone to participate! Your input is invaluable as we continue to shape the vision for this centre, which will serve as a hub for cultural expression and community gathering for decades to come. The survey will remain open until December 2024, so there’s plenty of time to share your thoughts and help us create a space that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.

This collaboration with the Ministry has helped Mabuhay House Society grow in ways we never imagined, and we are excited about the future of the Provincial Filipino Cultural Centre. Together, we are building a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

Once again, thank you to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, for your continued belief in the power of community and the arts.
